about jas
My name is Jasmine Mitchell, but you can call me Jas. I come from the sacrifices of an immigrant mother and father; I'm moved forward and upward by the gusts of the Dominica breeze. I'm from the sweat of my ancestors who came before me. That same determination for more motivates me today.
I am a playwright, director, and performer. I recently graduated from University of Maryland with her B.A. in Theatre. My focus faith-based and highlights Black women’s stories.
I received honorable mention from the KCACTF Stage Director’s and Choreographers competition. I also played Agnes in the world premiere of the online edition of She Kills Monsters.
I believe theatre oftentimes creates the social change that politics can't, in allowing audiences to step into the experiences they may never know the intricacies of.
Current projects:
-
a calypso-rap fusion musical, RAPunzel, and compiling a comprehensive anti-racist guide.
-
Artistic Associate/ Company manager at Andy’s Summer Playhouse, where I co-lead weekly roundtables about race in America.
